WXLLSPACE was designed to be a conduit connecting artists and real estate developers for creative placemaking through public art. A bridge that creates opportunities for public art to enliven our built environment.
For the creative, we're providing a way to monetize artist's talents and showcase their work to a wider audience, expanding their reach.
For developers, WXLLSPACE offers a unique way to add value to their properties and create a sense of place that will drive traffic to their site.
Today WXLLSPACE operates as such but is also a community of creatives who are hyper focused on community development and street art. More importantly, WXLLSPACE is more than just a marketplace – it’s a community of like-minded people who believe in the power of art to transform the places we live, work, and play.
For the creative
We’ve heard from dozens of artists that they were unfairly compensated and left out of key conversations where their art and intellectual property was involved. This is no jab to those who commission these projects, but after much research, we discovered that street artists are often left out of the conversation and due to this, they are often taken advantage of with low-ball offers and terrible transactions.
Our goal is to change this. An artist’s work should be highly valued as its presented to hundreds of people and ultimately changes the scenery or visuals of a space. With all of the real estate development going on and as more areas are gentrified, these opportunity zones are replaced with upcoming workable or livable units. It is important now, more than ever to remember the artists that make our cities beautiful.
For the community
The question begs, what good is a city without its culture and creativity? We believe that by working with artists, we can not only enhance the look and feel of the city but also give back to the community that makes it what it is. We strongly believe that art has the power to shape one's environment and positively affect the quality of life.
In order to achieve this, we emphasize the importance of providing artists with the a plethora of opportunities so they can continue to do what they love - making the world a more beautiful place, one mural at a time. We know that art can completely transform any space and we strive to make these spaces more inviting, vibrant, and overall, just cooler.
Economic Development and Our Creative Economy
Working in real estate development, I've noticed the increasing amount of development that can and does occur within miles of an epicenter of a city. There is an increasing amount of supply of apartments and a always a demand for housing. What's replaced however, is the culture and community that is being driven out by these new developments.
When I think about the places that I've loved living in or spending time in, it has always been because of the people and culture that make it special - not just the architecture. What makes New York so great? It's the energy, the diversity and the colors. Same thing with Atlanta. What makes it great? The people, the food, and the music. What about San Francisco? The tech community, the vibe and again, the food. What ties all of these cities together? A strong creative economy. So how do we create a sense of place and culture in our developments? By working with artists of course.
WXLLSPACE also believes in the power of art to drive economic development. We are strong proponents of the creative economy and the role that artists play in making the world a better place while increasing foot traffic to local economies.
According to a report by Americans for the Arts, the nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $166.32 billion in economic activity annually - that's more than agriculture or tourism. What's more, the arts generate $27.40 billion in federal, state, and local tax revenues annually.
The creative economy is a powerful force, and we are excited to be part of it. By connecting artists with real estate developers, we are helping to create jobs, drive economic development, and make our cities more livable.
